Freedom of the press is a cornerstone of a functioning democracy and is essential for holding both governments as well as other powerful institutions accountable. The right of citizens to express themselves freely and access information in order to make informed decisions should not be taken lightly and ensures that people can voice their opinion and dissent without fear of retaliation. In order for freedom of the press to remain intact, it is important that governments protect investigative journalists from censorship or intimidation.
What is investigative journalism and what role does it have to play in modern society and freedom of the press? 🖊️📰
Join us for another edition of JEF Talks in which a diverse group of expert panellists will investigate the evolving landscape of information gathering, all whilst providing comprehensive insight into the ethical considerations that journalists must undergo when conducting their investigations.
A further discussion will be had on the paramount values behind every pen, such as the importance of freedom of the press, the consequences of disinformation and the grave suppression of public communication that comes with censorship.
Join us on Friday 3rd March from 12pm to 2pm (DegreePlus Hours) in IT Services!
Time will be given at the end of the panel for the audience to ask questions. We look forward to seeing you there and hearing your opinions!
