Illiberal, nationalist and authoritarian tendencies have spread across national Governments and our society. In many countries, human rights are steadily undermined by those who are supposed to safeguard them: freedom of the press, of assembly and association; the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law; our very own European democratic structures are under pressure, being twisted and drained of their substance. 🗳️

At a time when democracy is under immense strain, with threats to freedom of expression, media independence, and judicial autonomy, it is more important than ever to come together and discuss how we can uphold the fundamental values that underpin our European values and society. We must work together to reaffirm our commitment to democracy, all while protesting against those that go against it. 🪧

Forming part of JEF Europe’s 🇪🇺 “Democracy Under Attack” campaign taking place on an international scale, join us on the 24th of March from 12pm to 2pm (DegreePlus Hours) at Institute of European Studies Library as a group of panellists, ranging from both lecturers as well as members of the student and civic activism body, will share their experiences and insights on the current major threats to democracy all whilst discussing possible solutions and actions with the rest of the audience. 💡

Time will be given at the end of the panel for the audience to ask questions. We look forward to seeing you there and hearing your opinions!
