On the 16th of October 2017 the politically motivated murder of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia shook the country and left shock waves across the continent. Four years on from this abhorrent assault on the press and democratic society, and two months from a public inquiry which concluded how the state "created an atmosphere of impunity, generated from the highest levels in the heart of the administration", concrete reform is yet to be seen. Therefore, true justice is yet to be served.
JEF Malta stands for values of tolerance, peace, democracy, the rule of law and respect for Human Rights. For this reason we believe that the culture of impunity that fueled Daphne's murder four years ago remains a threat to democratic functioning in this country today.
